Summer days

June 28, 2013

What a week. Monday morning we had a great little hour playdate, ran some errands, came back for naptime and little Clare woke with croup. How quickly a week’s plans can change. Sweet thing still isn’t quite herself but doing so much better after slathering her in essential oils these last few days. THANK GOD for their instantaneous effect. It makes this momma happy to take a few moments to massage my girl and then snuggle her just enough for her breathing to calm, her cough to stop, and her to rest again. I’m so thankful to have had enough support and intuition to go this route instead of the steroid option. God is good in so many ways.

There were a few brighter (and normal) spots in our week though.

Michael rediscovered his legos and I’ve started to see some new creations in his hands and on his mind.

This baby is four months already and blowing the socks off all of us. She’s in the 75%, sitting almost on her own, rolling both ways, and starting to get her legs up under her as if she’s ready to make some significant crawling strides. YIKES! She’s also teething and unfortunately it’s seriously knocking her for a loop. It’s been such a struggle for our littlest one!

A surprise visit from dear friends carrying homemade goodies and a get well wish for Clare. What generosity and love. Gianna broke her finger earlier in the week and by the end of the week was thinking more of Clare than herself. What a fun visit!

I love this above picture of Michael. He was feeling so great this afternoon. The kids have been anticipating this weekend since handing them their weekly schedule this past Monday. Pool party was planned for tonight with friends and a sleepover for Saturday night with longtime friends. Gianna coming this afternoon was almost more than he could comprehend. Such love between these kids! I was so happy to hand them the $2 sprinklers for a quick 30 minute cool off this afternoon.

Ahh the much anticipated pool party! Little did we know that a few of their children had spent their week praying for NO RAIN also. Rain or not, they were able to swim. That’s one of the perks of living in the south…rain doesn’t always necessitate getting out of the pool.

“Nahh mom. I think I’ll stay under cover. Thanks though.”

So many arms to hold a soft, squishy baby on a summer evening.

Silly little boy on his first time time in the pool. I’m so thankful someone was able to use the infant floatie. (Ellie is too small still.)

Brothers are the best. The older boys could swim and touch so much easier than Michael. He was a bit bummed to not be able to keep up. Thankfully we don’t live far and I was able to run home for the pool noodles and a second life vest in case he opted for that instead.

I think we are going to have to plan many, many more summer days at the pool. These boys and Sarah definitely need some serious water play.

On that note, it’s very late, and I think sweet Clare is going to need some overnight/upright snuggle time with mommy. I forsee some napping tomorrow for both of us! God bless y’alls night AND our vocation of parenthood. It’s not an easy calling!
