Happy Birthday Jesus!!

December 25, 2012

Nate & I commented that this year’s Christmas morning was the most wonderful yet. He and I got up, showered, and dressed for Mass in time to wake the kids at 7:00 a.m. (Imagine, waking your children on Christmas morning! We were surprised they weren’t up on their own.) We knew Santa had come and were anxious to get them up (as promised) with enough time to play before Mass.

But first…baby Jesus is laid in his manger.

Then it’s off to unwrap the Santa goodies.

The kids each get one present from Santa, hopefully something from their very short letter to Santa. Michael wanted desperately the Skylanders game, but for most of the year we were under the impression it wasn’t available for the Wii console, and daddy refused (rightfully so) to purchase a new gaming system. Thankfully, all changed in time for Christmas morning. Same system, new game and 7 characters. I’m delighted that he loves the game as much as he said he would.

Clare received a very cool drawing board that uses only a pen filled with water. Awesome. Amazingly, all the kids were excited by her new toy. I was happy that it worked great at Mass later that morning.

These two are so silly. We were listening to Christmas music and Clare started dancing. Michael mimicked her moves! I realize a video would have been a better visual, but you get the idea…maybe.

Katie girl has wanted a Keurig coffee maker for the better part of this past year. It’s not that she drinks coffee (In our house, no one but daddy drinks coffee.) but rather she knew it would make a quick cup of hot chocolate or apple cider (her favorites), and a commercial claimed it was great for making hot morning oatmeal. Santa did not disappoint and brought her a little something for everyone in the family…hot chocolate, cider, tea, AND coffee. Katie was so happy to make everyone a cup of their favorite warm goodness for breakfast. I agreed to a breakfast tea and had a little moment with my drink over breakfast. Such a surprise, but that first sip took me straight back to an early morning breakfast sitting around the table at one of our honeymoon bed & breakfast locations. Yep. Unbeknownst to Katie, she had made me an Irish tea for breakfast Christmas morning.

Breakfast is over and the kids have to get ready for Mass. Clare’s favorite thing is blowing out the candles…with a fair share of spit of course!

Christmas morning Mass is one of my most favorite times of the Church year. There’s something really magical about the church being transformed for Christmas. I suppose maybe it’s a bit like how the kids feel waking up on Christmas morning to a tree full of presents and stockings laden with unknown goodies. However, since those are really my preparations, I get to rejoice in the transformation of our worship space. I love it! I love the lights…the candles…the music…the beauty of the floral arrangements and the decorations on the pews…and you can’t forget the majesty of the nativity scene. I love it all!

This year, the kids were greeters for the half hour before Mass began. While the kids handed out song sheets and said Merry Christmas, Clare ran from one person to the next laughing and giving hugs. She was swept up into the air and into the arms of someone more times than we could count. Thankfully, we aren’t strangers to this early morning Mass and those in attendance were inviting! Such joy in her little body and such a welcomed gift for Christmas morning.

After-mass photos are a must for this momma obsessed with her photos, but I must admit after all these years, we have yet to get one that I actually love. At any rate, Merry Christmas from our family to yours!

Enough already mom. We haven’t seen Jesus laying in the manger yet!

Daddy led the kids (this year) in a little prayer. I love that Clare is happy to fold her hands too!

The day might be dreary outside, but I assure you there was no moping around in this family. Presents and feasting awaited us at home! (And yes, we are often the last ones to leave Mass. HA!)

Stockings first and then brunch.

Presents every hour give the kids time to enjoy their gifts…one at a time. Lots of Legos and building sets this year. In fact, Michael received ALL legos and Katie almost also. They are delighted to say the least!

Thanks Aunt Jenny for my stroller. (I can’t wait for my baby doll to arrive. HA.)

Michael was our baker this year. He is beginning to really take ownership of the kitchen process. It’s always intimidated him just a little as he watches Katie so proficiently navigate her way around the kitchen and through countless recipes. However, he is really doing well!

Happy Birthday Baby Jesus!

It’s late. The house is quiet. Time to turn out the lights and say goodnight. Prayers that your day was richly blessed also.
