Ahhhhh….life out of the norm

December 10, 2012

So…for two weeks we have been sick! Yep. The first week both Michael and Clare had the stomach virus and Katie & I a variation of it. This past week, I was out for the count for 3 consecutive days. In fact, Nate spent an entire week at home (sick himself two days) and trying to be Mr. Mom and employee of the year simultaneously. Needless to say, we are ready for some normalacy around here. Despite all the ups and downs and craziness, there were a few pictures taken believe it or not. I think the family knows it’s important even if mom isn’t the one taking them. BTW…I never get photographed and this set of pictures is doing nothing for my “image”. Nothing like being sick and on display for the whole to see. HA! Just keeping it real!

There’s been a whole lot cuddling a sick babe, entertaining her from bed while we were sick, and of course the great introduction of Barney into her life. Thank God she loves him as much as Katie & Michael did growing up. It’s a bit of a comfort for us too…nostalgic I guess.

The kids spent the better part of last week entertaining themselves…making snowflakes, coloring, reading, legos of course, etc. We did venture out one day for Katie’s math class and a stop at the PlayPlace at McDonalds…it was good for everyone. The weekend proved to be good too. Daddy was able to take the kids to Lowe’s for a kids building event. This is a tradition that has long been dismissed for other things, but the kids were excited to build the Sandman from their most recent favorite movie, Rise of the Guardians.

A sleepover was planned for both Katie & Michael, but unfortunately Michael crashed with a fever and had to come home early. (Poor thing has been down for 4 days now.) Katie, however, had a magical time!! Our friends are so near and dear to our hearts, and doted all over her. She indeed felt like royalty with the big girls!

And to top off the week, Katie lost another baby tooth. She was granted permission to get that nasty, wiggly, bloody thing out of her mouth even well past bedtime. Love that girl and her ability to handle her own loose teeth…it creeps me out!

So…there you have it. At some point, we’ll get all the decorations up for Christmas, the shopping done, and the projects completed, and be ready for some Christmas celebrating. For now…we are at home, resting, drinking lots of fluids, filling humidifiers, and taking it easy! I think there just might be some divine wisdom in moments of illness…a forced time to slow down and let the little (or big) things slide. Hoping for healthy days soon…for all of us!

Poor babies! What a rough week — but I too am always know it’s God’s way of telling me to slow down 🙂

I pray Evie will pull her own teeth like Katie. I just can’t handle them! Maybe I’ll just call Katie 🙂
