Are we really saying “Merry Christmas?”

November 17, 2012

Yes. The Bosters broke our Christmas rule…no Christmas until Advent begins. Actually, the weather was beautiful, we’d been working all day, and quite frankly Nate thought it would be fun to see a tree lighting…something neither of us (nor our children) have experienced. So…we pretended for the late afternoon that it was indeed the Christmas season!

storytime (1280x853)

Story time with Mrs. Claus…although she was a terribly uninteresting story”teller”, the kids seemed to enjoy it (or are simply more kind than their mom). Is it wrong to be this honest on our blog? It was fun to hear some classic children’s stories! (There, I said something nice to counteract my negative comment. Grano would be happy with me.)

carollers (1280x853)

The carolers were fantastic and even took requests. Katie was delighted to stand with me front and center and partake in a little singing ourselves.

There were reindeer candy canes to craft and “face” painting. Our kids hate to be told to scrub their faces before bed so they often opt for a “hand” painting instead. Cute, though, right?!

There was also a sleepy girl that was “just cold enough” she didn’t mind snuggling. (I love how she wraps her little fingers into the fringe of her blanket. This was a blanket handmade by Gramma Lissa for her birth day.)

Of course, there was the hope for a Christmas picture (so early in the season even). However, I think I’ll keep making my children suffer for another attempt at a suitable picture. The matching clothes are a VERY rare occasion for these sisters so different in size. Thank you Aunt Roanna! They fit great!! Katie has been so anxious to wear them, but I made her wait until Christmas. She was quite happy we were “celebrating” early this year…even if just for the afternoon!

As the sun set, there were more visitors to the square ready to celebrate the tree lighting! Gotta love the Chick-fil-A cow!

And then just as it was getting a bit too cold to comfortably enjoy the wait, Santa arrived escorted by the high school marching band!

And at last, the beautiful anticipatory part of the Christmas season, the switch was flipped by Santa himself and the tree was lit!

Merry Christmas all (even if just for the afternoon). We will officially begin our celebrations Dec. 2nd!

As an aside, for those that read our blog regularly, the kids can say they were part of a World Record. Check it out here!
