It’s Guinness World Record Day!

November 15, 2012

Did you know that there’s actually an international Guinness World Record Day? It seems as though the kids were indeed trying to get this record listed in the 2013 edition.

The Chicago Tribune lists some pretty cool records trying to be made today.

We might have learned about this event in the 11th hour, and were by chance accepted to participate (must have been a low number of homeschoolers that applied as most kids are in school on a Thursday morning), and were not trying for a record that entailed a charity, but the kids were doing something they love…building Legos.

The kids were at Legoland Discovery Center in Atlanta’s Phipps Plaza at 6:30 a.m. today. Along with 30 other kids and those in the other 9 locations around the world, they began their build at 7:00 a.m. No adults could touch the lego pieces, the kids followed the directions on their own or with verbal adult assistance, and they built these fantastic Christmas trains!

How cute right? There was a time limit established for this build and as you might imagine, it was longer than was needed for the kids to actually build. In predictable kid fashion, they built their legos and then began chatting with those around them. There were lego trains driving everywhere and then some adaptations made to the already built models. Although, the “extra” time was a bit lengthy for Clare & I, the “lego kids” were having a great time.

You can be sure that we will be watching the Legoland website to see the results after the videos from around the world are reviewed by the Guinness team. We are told we’ll receive an immediate email, but on the chance it doesn’t come through…I think I’ll check periodically!

Have I mentioned lately how much I love “living” in a big city AND homeschooling. At the moment, I also that love that Clare opted for a mid-morning nap and I was able to update this blog. Now, we are off to Katie’s last science class of 2012.
