…and she climbs through the trees

November 9, 2012

Katie has been so excited all term to do this TreeTop Quest adventure.

She’s been taking an Amusement Park Science course with the Gwinnett Environmental & Heritage Center these past 6 weeks, logging just a bit more than 18 hours. She’s learned about kinetic energy, potential energy, momentum, center of gravity, speed, velocity, slope, etc.

She surprised her teachers by being able to make her way across the below obstacle with friends on either side intentionally shaking her wire. We’ve never known Katie to have exceptional balance, but she really did it! Her teacher was sure to commend her for her core strength and determination. Good for you sweet girl!

After spending a little more than an hour in the level 2 treetops, they were given permission to head over to the level 3 course.

Katie’s friend Patrick and her were sent off together with the instruction to help one another. Hhhhmmm….maybe I will follow them just in case.

However, after walking at a snails pace with Clare in tow, picking up acorns, sticks & leaves, we arrive at Level 3 to find out there were two adults stationed there.

Katie was amazed at how many steps there were to securing her line at each interval of the course. I was so impressed to watch her navigate them. She’s our rule follower for sure and very careful, but for having no experience, she did great.

After the conversation about the intricacies of safety and her various lines, she was quick to tell me that she loved most the zip lines! Yep. She is her daddy’s daughter!

For 2 1/2 hours we walked through the forest looking up at Katie suspended high above the ground. These two are the greatest sidekicks on Thursdays. Sweet little Clare was so tired when we finally got to the car…hills, uneven ground, lots of treasures to pick up, and plenty of running and exploring. It was all the things she loves most. This 16 month old girl was born to be outside!
