Happy Halloween!!

Happy Halloween!!!

our kids (1280x498)

The last week has been literally full of Halloween festivities…more than our normal schedule of events this time of year. I must admit I was a little frazzled come today…I’m not used to keeping up this schedule. We’ve been out of the house by 8:30 all week. Is it Friday yet? It’ll be our first nothing planned day this week!

Saturday Katie spent 6 hours with an American Heritage Girls service day. Funny to be preparing for Halloween and see that she was wrapped up in all things Christmas.

While Katie was crafting with friends, we took Michael to Toys R Us for their Lego Bricktober event. We’ve looked at the Lego Monster sets, but I must admit they were a little too “spooky” for my liking. However, I am now convinced that the pieces are so unusual that it might be worth a few sets sneaking into their collection. It was a fun morning and between Daddy, I, and Michael we built some cool Lego buildings. Several of them we left at the store for display and two we brought home. Awesome!!

We came home to fulfill an activity we missed earlier in the week…mystery candy. Katie was a definite winner with daddy a close second.

Sunday we spent the afternoon at Fernbank participating in their Boo-museum festivities. It was interesting to revisit the story of Genghis Kahn…a lesson Katie had in history several years ago. It’s scary how much you can forget in a matter of months.

It’s so comforting to know that I have so many pictures of this museum over the years that now when we visit, I take only the photos of new things or the tried and true shots…the ones that mark the progression of time and age. Our membership expires this month so we won’t renew for a full year…we do every other year on our museum memberships.

Having experienced the inside of the museum many times, it was fun to take advantage of the nice weather and spend some time outside. Thanks to Mikey who happened to sneak a ball into his sweatshirt pocket, we had instant entertainment. I love the wacky, never to be duplicated, photo of Katie’s missing leg as they ran through the courtyard.

And because the day wasn’t full enough we carved pumpkins that evening.

And yes, power tools are a must.

In this house, a holiday necessitates a little bit of baking too.

The kids trick-or-treated at the parish on Tuesday and then we enjoyed Free kids meals at Chick-fil-a that night.

Today, I must admit was a day to clean. Alaska has been sick all week AND has fleas. Therefore, spring cleaning went into overdrive; laundry, vacuuming, dusting, disinfecting, etc. I love a clean house, but boy am I tired! Insomnia helped spur the decision to start and finish flea removal today!

And then there were Halloween festivities to have tonight!! YEA!!

My sister and her son made adorable pirates!! Julius is getting so big and looked so precious in his costume. It’s been fun to share all of his trick-or-treats as they have been able to come out every year! Jen dresses up at work and was indeed the perfect costuming combination.

We went for the Dr. Seuss theme. So appropriate that Katie was a graduate from “Oh the Places You’ll Go”. Gosh it’s hard to believe though that 2021 is likely to be here in the blink of an eye. She’s getting so big. Michael & Clare made the perfect Thing 1 & 2…they are two peas in a pod and can create more chaos in a split second. These two are cohorts in every way! Yep. A big star on my ever bulging belly was a perfect way to show off my favorite book by Dr. Seuss, “The Sneetches”. Just in case you want to relive your own childhood…here’s the video. (Daddy, you are welcome. Now you’ll know the story!)

We are so thankful to have met some new friends AND have them join us tonight for some non-apartment trick-or-treating. Nate & I knew Katie’s sister and brother-in-law from college, and were delighted to meet up with them shortly after they moved to Atlanta just a few short months ago. Thanks for coming Onofry’s. It was a fun night!

And Michael was delighted that Tate (from across the street) joined the group. These boys are so great. Poor Tate couldn’t understand why Michael was “over” the trick-or-treating scene and was ready to go home. “Michael Trick-or-Treat with me”, demanded Tate in the final stretches of the night’s trek.

And sweet Katie is always delighted to have girls around!

I’d call it a successful night of candy collecting. Each came home with over a 100 pieces of sugar. I think we are most definitely going to have extra candy for those Christmas gingerbread houses! Now, just to keep them out of my hands in the next weeks.

Ahhh what a great week and now to turn our eyes to the feasting tomorrow. God bless our Church and the communion of saints. A final Happy Halloween to y’all and a blessed All Saints Day tomorrow. Night!
