Six Flags Fright Fest…a new experience

October 15, 2012

welcome (1280x498)

What an incredible day!! Sunday’s weather couldn’t have been more perfect. We were comfortable in our jeans and Tshirts (although we could have been comfortable in shorts I think too). This day was an extra special treat to our family as we seriously didn’t spend a penny in our Six Flags adventures. In fact, we spent $3 cash the entire day!! How did we do it??

Microsoft and HP were our generous benefactors! I am so thankful (for numerous reasons) that my husband is an IT geek. However, this weekend I’m especially grateful! We shared a once-in-a-lifetime Sunday as a family. Free entrance for all 4 us (and Clare). Free parking pass. Free lunch, drinks, dessert, and face painting. Free goodie bag for both Nate and I…$20 in park bucks (which we used for an evening funnel cake, cheese/bacon/ranch fries, and a drink refill on our cup purchased free with coupon during July’s visit), 2 baseball caps, 2 coffee tumblers, and 2 free park photos (which sadly we didn’t use as we weren’t able to find photographers later in the day after having by-passed them at the entrance…a big bummer for this photo loving momma).

Just in case, here are the identification pictures we took of the kids (at the start of our day) and saved to our phones. Having experienced sheer panic recently, we were hyper aware of our kids’ location and our preparations.

I’m not sure I’ll be able to do justice to the real extent of our day’s delights, but none-the-less here are a few pictures of our adventures.

Never having been to Six Flags during Fright Fest, we were hesitant to stay too long (a wise decision). However, the daytime/family friendly events were fantastic and a nice treat from our summertime experiences.

trick or treat (1280x853)

Looney Tunes KidTown had trick or treating. In fact, Michael was so enamored with the new-to-us Gogo characters. (I guess we’ll have to check it out online this week to find out what to do with them.) He loved opening those packages and discovering the crazy character inside.

In addition to the candy stations (air heads, Milky Way, PB Snickers, WarHeads), they were also giving away Ghoul-Be-Gone rings for the after-dark festivities. Show your ring and the ghouls would leave you alone. No thank you…this family will just leave before we encounter all the expected ghouls. Daddy thought he was funny, and not to be outdone, Katie thought she was funny with her staring contest antics. Clare just liked taking it on and off her finger.

Mikey, still a bit nervous about amusement rides, prefers to ride Looney Tune style, ie. kid style and safe from any unexpected speeds or heights.

Katie is officially too tall this year for any rides in this area, but Clare is old enough to ride accompanied. She loves her big brother and loved this ride, despite the fact that 5 minutes later she threw up and needed a new shirt. Reflux still or motion sickness? Both could be the culprit.

The Canyon Blaster is a stretch for Michael, but he did it and he was happy to have conquered it this trip. He liked it last summer, but refused to do it during our July visit this year. I love how he’s “attached” to daddy throughout the ride. He was surprised to learn that the last car is always the fastest. It wasn’t a seating position risk he was willing to take a second time. Funny, right?!

Katie loves the Crime Wave and even got Daddy to ride it with her. She rode it 3 times in fact. (She opted out of the Canyon Blaster ride as she’d just stepped off two rounds of the Crime Wave minutes before.)

Mikey, getting a bit braver, agreed to ride the boats if Daddy would ride with him. Notice his position next to Nate.

Katie’s favorite “new” ride, was definitely the Mine Train. Unfortunately,Nate won’t be riding it with her again after having suffered through the jolts and jerks and the back & spine impacts as he was thrown around the car. He did ride it twice with her, enough to declare it her favorite. Next year…he’ll stand in line with her but send her on it alone…quite happily I might add.

Clare rode three rides this year…the Hanson cars, the carousel and the Fiesta Wheel. She squealed & grinned during each one.

What a fantastic day. Thank you Microsoft and HP and daddy too! (Mr. Sean, we offered our achy feet on the walk back to the van in thanksgiving for you.) Six Flags, thanks for a great day and the kids and Nate are anxious to visit next summer. I, however, will be home snuggling a newborn and no doubt chasing after our 2-year-old. The next photos on this blog will likely be in 2014 as Daddy doesn’t take many when it’s just him and the kids.

So glad you all got to do this. Although mikey did ride the canyon blaster with me when we all went last year. I think we rode it 3 times.

Papa, he reminded me of that, but he was convinced that he couldn’t ride it when we were there in July. Maybe he just needed you to ride it!! Coming next year??
