Six Flags 2012

July 31, 2012

Well we did it. Actually, the only really astonishing part is that I did it. After laying on the couch these last three weeks accomplishing NOTHING, I managed to walk around Six Flags, entertain Clare (with help), AND enjoy myself from doors open to doors close. Yep. We were there 10 1/2 hours! What a day!

The first two hours were at Skull Island…definitely the kids’ most favorite part of Six Flags.

We actually lured them away with the promise of a much loved and rare in our house Uncrustable sandwich and banana. 1:00 and we were off to experience the rest of the park. Thank God for a fully reclining stroller!

This was a monumental moment for Katie…she drove the bumper car solo! Daddy gave her a hug and a “way to go girl”! Although nervous, she really did great!

Clare woke just in time to convince everyone to ride the carousel…her first ride!

Michael opted for a carriage instead of a horse. I wonder if he specifically chose the carriage of love WITH the naked woman no less. Oh my!

Other than Skull Island, this is the next best ride for our kids. Katie used this as a “testing ground” before deciding to jump on a bigger coaster with daddy.

In the end, only daddy rode Batman.

It did, however, give Katie the chance to ride the Crime Wave. Oh my! I think she now has a new favorite! She even took the opportunity to wave to me! I won’t lie…I’m immensely happy with this picture!

Michael was happy on the swings in Looney Tunes…a little more tame than the Crime Wave.

And while waiting for Daddy, we enjoyed some Coca-Cola in Gotham City.

Daddy joined us just in time for a free cup of Coke in a seriously chilly igloo.

And yes, apparently we are one-of-those-parents who let their kids jump the barriers for a photo opp.

2012-07-29_20120729_172152 (1280x645)

What did Clare and I do? Well, we enjoyed the Looney Tunes show!

The girl loves to dance! It was so funny to watch her “interact” with the characters on stage just a few feet from her. Yep. I think she “has the beat”.

We so enjoyed the Illuminate show and daddy picked the best seats in the house…front row of the balcony! How fun to visit with the some of the performers afterward.

Here is a clip of their debut on America’s Got Talent.

And what did Clare think of the show? She fell asleep for an early evening nap. Only her second of the day. She is indeed our little Energizer Bunny! Give her 30-45 minutes of shut eye and she just keeps on going!

2012-07-29_20120990 (1280x813)

Admittedly, we couldn’t resist the pleas for “just one more ride” after the show. Thunder River was a great choice. Clare and I sat next to the water and watched EVERYONE get soaked as their boat came down the rapids and into the water falls. Thankfully, Katie and Michael did not have to ride home soaked as they got minimally wet!

And as if the night just couldn’t end, we made good on our promise for a funnel cake before we left the park.

2012-07-29_20121003 (1280x851)

What a great day! Even better, we managed to spend money on one meal (a large pizza) and a funnel cake and fries at the end of the day. Being very thrifty we used passes for the kids and I through a school program and Nate purchased his ticket free with Coca-Cola points AND our drink we shared throughout the day. Free refills made it a great option for our very thirsty theme park traipsing family! I’m happy we managed to use every minute possible of our “free” day at Six Flags. However, in future years, we might have to consider the Flash Pass if going on a weekend. Momma & Clare will bow out next year, but here’s to the promise of 2014 and our little “annual” summer outing. Daddy has, however, already promised to take Katie & Michael. We’re so proud they are already planning their itinerary of “must sees”. What a great day!

Now to prepare for our visitors on Wednesday. We look forward to adventures with Grandma Sandy and Roanna! Off to clean house. Well actually, off to bed and clean house tomorrow. There’s always another day, right?!

Roanna, we can’t wait to see you too! Be safe! You have our prayers…three Hail Mary’s in fact for safe travels. It’s tradition in our family!
