Happy and holy Triduum celebrations

April 22, 2011

What a blessed few days.
Holy Thursday….the kids painted the most adorable Last Supper pictures (minus two apostles that we just couldn’t figure out how to make fit). This is part of our on-going art lessons….step-by-step drawing. This one was done on a much bigger canvas and entailed greater attention and patience. It was an ambitious project, but one that I love. Funny how the faces all turned out “the same”. That’s what you get when you assume an assembly line approach to drawing multiple images. Katie’s has the purple background and Michael’s background is red.
Good Friday….oh my. Deep cleaning the house was our penance for today. Thankfully, two adults and two kids make quicker work of the seemingly insurmountable task. It looks nice though, smells clean, and is ready for some baking/decorating tomorrow and feasting on Sunday! We cleaned all morning until a very late lunch. Ate lunch and then observed some “silence” during 2:30-4:00. We chose to do some coloring, assembling the characters of the Passion while listening/praying the Sorrowful Mysteries. I’m ashamed to say that I think I’ve had this CD for well over a year, and this was the first occasion we actually listened/prayed it. What an incredibly beautiful opportunity. As luck would have it, it’s actually the scriptural rosary with a little piece of the story thrown in between each Hail Mary. The rosary is actually recited by children which was particularly appealing to Katie & Michael. I was so proud of them. Coloring. Praying. Listening. Questioning. Silent….all the makings for an incredible amount of grace!
Holy Saturday (tomorrow)…will be dying Easter eggs and making some Easter sugar cookies complete with icing decorations piped on after cooling. We’ll also prepare the grocery menu and make any preparations for Sunday’s brunch. Everyone gets to pick their own favorite thing to add to the menu. I think I’ll go for IHOP cheesecake pancakes. Thank goodness for Food Network magazine and last issues feature recipe. YUMMY! Kids want special smoothies. Nate is undecided I think. Don’t know about Anna either. Let’s leave it at a simple, more to come! Hopefully the afternoon will be spent outdoors. Atlantic Station is doing an Easter celebration and Centennial Olympic Park is having an Art “camp” for kids. That means probably a stop at the Aquarium too. We’ll see how much energy this third trimester momma can muster come the afternoon!
God bless your final preparations for the Easter feasting!
