Forsyth Greenway is open

September 3, 2009

This afternoon, the weather was finally sunny and the temperatures still cool, that after co-op we stopped at the Greenway entrance, less than a mile from our house. Katie rode her bike with greater confidence and excitement and was a trooper to overcome her fears. (We’re still working on hills!) We had such a great time gawking in the woods as we walked. It’s so wonderful to feel as though you are on this great trail miles and miles from civilization! Very cool! Check out a few of our great finds…science lessons were double today!

Seems to be part of the purple aster family of flowers

muskrat...we watched him cut down a blade of grass and carry it to his den

Anna spotted this little guy down by the edge of the water. We stood on the bridge and watched him underneath us. It was kind of amazing to see his size.  He cut down one of these blades of grass (at its base) and swam with it under the overhanging vegetation at the water’s edge. Wikipedia says he was building a dam. More interesting facts here.

michael wanted a picture with the spiders (look right of his head)...he said they didn't say "cheese" though
