Rainy Day plans??

March 26, 2009

**(Updated post at the bottom.)

This a.m. I wondered what our rainy (sleepover) day would bring. Katie was sitting next to me when I came across this blog. Inspiration struck before I even had a chance to ask her if she wanted to make them today. We can’t wait for her friend to arrive this afternoon and “finish” the project. Check back to see how they turn out and check out the blog where we first got the inspiration.  (We may make the happy faces or the cupcakes…no decisions yet though.) http://bakerella.blogspot.com/

Katie and Michael rejoiced in the “smell” of cake. Too funny. Katie was a great teacher coaching her brother through the process of making a cake without mom’s help. Too cute!

Breakfast at 8:30 a.m. …. cake batter.

We baked the cake, let it cool and them crumbled it up with some yummy frosting. Katie’s friend, Mercedes, is on the left.

Rolling the dough into balls is not a skill 5 and 5 1/2 years possess. It was interesting trying to “teach” them how to roll a ball between their hands. They looked a bit more like flattened eggs…

The balls wanted to slip off the sticks and get “stuck” in the chocolate. This part of the process, I completed without assistants.

Katie and Mercedes helped put together the flower pots (Katie had painted them last week.) Doesn’t this pic just capture the excitement of the anticipation?!

Everyone liked their “pops” except for Katie and I. Hhhhmmmm….

Oh yes, the writing pens at almost $8, didn’t work either. I have to return them today and hope that they can give some explanation. They almost appeared to be out of ink. Anyone have experience with edible markers? I used Wilton’s product. At any rate, we had cute yellow pops with what appeared to be some faint scribbles.

Not a bad rainy day activity, but don’t know that I’ll attempt it again. It was a long process and then for them not to look like smiley faces…not a great activity for a perfectionist.
